MEANDERING THROUGH MY MIND

for everyone
clouds in corinth

You always hear about people migrating West to California, the land of milk and honey and all that jazz.  Well 3 years ago after spending over 50 years in Southern California, when California started getting a bit rough around the edges and seemed to be losing it's luster we did some research and some traveling and saw that there might be some better alternatives elsewhere.

We were considering semi-retiring.  We wanted to stay some place that was mostly warm, not completely isolated, had less pollution, less crime etc.  We strongly considered Florida, Alabama, Texas, British Columbia and New Zealand.

We explored and researched for several years and finally made the change and moved to the Dallas Texas area.

So about 3 weeks ago they announce that Plano, Texas (which is about 20 miles from us) has been voted the best place in the Country to amass wealth.  Then about a week later they announce that the Dallas metroplex has been voted the best place in the country for couples to live.

Then a few days ago Denton, Texas was found to be number 10 on the fastest growing cities in the country.  We don't actually live in Denton but in an adjacent suburb and just share a zip code.

So here we thought we had our own little secret and now the whole World knows.  Anyhow it is an awfully nice place to live for so many reasons and I sure hope it stays this way.

denton courthouse

Above is the Denton County Courthouse built in 1896 on the square in Denton.  It's kind of like Back to the Future up there.

I have a friend in north Texas and he was saying how the real estate market is still vital and strong even way up there.

Your area looks really great. - Love the courthouse.

The real estate prices never got over inflated here. It is just a steady growth. But it is still a buyer's market as it seems they may be overbuilding a bit for the demand.

It's very nice here so far this Summer. We are in the dryer part of the state. We'll get a thunder shower or two a week. It is in the mid 90's most of July and August. We have had about 6 days so far this year where it has passed the 100 mark, under 105 though. We still get out and walk every day. It is not terribly humid here like it is down closer to the Gulf.

Yes, between the tech move and now the Barnett Shale and then T Boone Pickens windfarm maybe this wide open land will become just another megalopolis.

There is still plenty of pickins in the other neighborhoods. The "landmen" are all over the place.
